There are a lot of stories out there that claim all sorts of successes losing weight, but this is more than a story. It&#8217;s my story and it&#8217;s true.</p>
<p>About 2 years ago, after many years of &#8220;I don&#8217;t care abuse&#8221;, I wound up weighing 260 lbs. At 5&#8217;10&#8243;, I was way over the charts into obesity land. One day a friend, Eric was in my office and he commented on my shirt spreading belly and stated I should do something about it. Well I did.</p>
<p>In the year following, I cut my eating portions in half and successfully dropped 30 lbs! (Actually the first 9 were the easiest, being mostly water weight). Then it stopped. I have 30 more lbs to drop, but for the past year I couldn&#8217;t get the scale to budge. For the past 8 months I actually started running 30 mins a day in attempt to drop the weight. Nothing budged.</p>
<p>Over the year I was diagnosed as being diebetic, Type 2. This wasn&#8217;t a surprise given my weight problem, but what I didn&#8217;t realize is that the insulin resistance was actually keeping me fat. I read about this in <a href="http://review-st.com/diet-solution">The Diet Solution by Isabel De Los Rios</a>. It&#8217;s a great resource of good solid health information.</p>
<p>My Doctor prescribed Metformin about a month ago, in an increasing dose to make sure I was telerant to the drug. Metformin helps in increasing the insulin efficiency and promotes glucose absorption into the muscles.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s been 30 days and this is what I determined. With my blood glucose at 140 or above I was actually gaining weight. The exercise only helped to sustain on the scale. At 120, I didn&#8217;t gain weight, but It wasn&#8217;t going anywhere. I would build muscle, but my body kept storing the excess sugar as fat. (The muffin top effect was my evidence of that. Prior to the &#8220;new&#8221; fat, my belly was all viceral fat, hard and no pinch). Thenin the past week it happenned.</p>
<p>My blood sugar is stabalizing at 100 to 110. Wow! The fat seems to be melting away! What a perk! I actually lost a measurable 2lbs this week! I love it! My wife actually commented that my belly seemed to be shrinking and I feel a lot more energetic</p>
<p>So what&#8217;s my motivation? Before getting so fat, I bought a whole bunch of silk shirts (I&#8217;m in Florida). It&#8217;s a style I like and my 36 in waist jeans are still waiting to be worn again. I can&#8217;t wait. I actually peaked at 42+ in waist and I&#8217;m at 40 now. I haven&#8217;t worn any of these since my buddy pointed out my &#8220;growing physique&#8221;. </p>
<p>Well, I&#8217;ll be 60 years old this year in October. I hope to be 20lbs lighter by then. To top that my Ironman Daughter said she would run my first 10k with me. I&#8217;d like to make her proud.</p>
<p>So, for now, I&#8217;m feeling good. My weight is heading in the right direction, my blood preasure is &#8220;legal&#8221; and I don&#8217;t have to take Prilosec anymore! Wow, Life IS Good!</p>

<p>The connection between coconut oil and weight loss is interesting. Farmers in America discovered this early last century when they tried to fatten their cattle by feeding them coconut oil. Instead of gaining weight, their cattle lost weight! So again, this is not news. Do a simple Internet search such as &#8220;benefits of coconut oil&#8221; and you will get plenty of details.</p>

<p>This is one fat that diabetics can eat without fear. Not only does it not contribute to diabetes, but it helps regulate blood sugar, thus lessening the effects of the disease. Islanders have consumed large amounts of coconut oil for many generations without ever encountering diabetes, but when they abandoned it for other foods and oils, the results were believably harmful.</p>
<p>Good Saturated Fat</p>
<p>Coconut oil consists of 90% saturated fats. But whether or not saturated fats are harmful depends on who you ask. The idea that saturated fats cause heart disease is never questioned. Those who do question this belief, however, point out that mankind has been consuming mainly saturated fats in the form of butter, lard, coconut oil, etc, for thousands of years, yet heart disease was rare before the 1920s. If anything, the rise of heart disease in recent decades may correspond to the increasing use of polyunsaturated vegetable oils like corn and canola, as well as margarine.</p>
<p>Conclusion</p>
<p>Coconut oil has done wonders for the way I feel and has also helped lower my blood sugar. I  won&#8217;t speak for everyone and I suggest you consult you doctor before you try any of these oils. </p>

A new University of California, Berkley study, published today, shows that a lifetime of activities that require high levels of brain function helps to fight the formation of the beta-amyloid proteins associated with Alzheimer&#8217;s disease.</p>
<p>The study took a look at the brains of adults aged 60 or over, none of whom had symptoms of Alzheimer&#8217;s disease. Those who had a lengthy history of stimulating their brains with activities such as reading, writing, and solving puzzles were found to have the lowest levels of the beta-amyloid proteins in their brains.</p>
<p>An important factor in the study was the length of time which participants had been stimulating their brains. Those who only started increasing their brain activity in their senior years were found to more plaque than those who had high brain activity their whole lives. This suggests that a lifetime of brain-intensive activity may be useful in fighting off the memory-destroying Alzheimer&#8217;s plaques.</p>
<p>Once the symptoms of Alzheimer&#8217;s begin to manifest, a lot of permanent and irreversible damage has already been done to the brain. This study shows the importance of a lifetime of mental stimulation in fighting Alzheimer&#8217;s, as opposed to simply increasing brain activity as a senior.</p>

Now if as little as 1 gram daily can be dangerous to your health, imagine what you&#8217;re doing to yourself with 5 grams?and that was only the fries! What about all of the cookies, cakes, chicken fingers, donuts, and other stuff people eat on a regular basis? </p>
<p><b>Some people are getting more than 20-30 grams of trans fats every day and don&#8217;t even realize that they&#8217;re slowly killing themselves with this crap.</b></p>
<p>If you care about your health, check the ingredients of everything you buy, and if you see partially hydrogenated oils of any kind, margarine, or shortening, protect yourself and your family by choosing something else. If I were asked to pick one thing that is most harmful to our health that is used in our food supply, it would be the artificial trans fats by a landslide. They are simply THAT dangerous that they must be avoided.</p>
<p>The FDA mandated that all food manufacturers show the quantity of trans fat on all labels starting back in January 2006. However, they can still claim that their product is &#8220;trans fat free&#8221; or &#8220;no trans fat&#8221; if it has 0.5 grams of trans fat or less per serving according to regulations in the US. So all they do is reduce the serving size portion small enough so that it has 0.5 grams of trans, and they can claim &#8220;no trans fat&#8221;. Don&#8217;t trust them! You must inspect the ingredients for yourself to know if it&#8217;s free of hydrogenated oils, margarine, or shortening.</p>
<p>Avoid anything deep fried: including tortilla chips, potato chips, French fries, donuts, fried chicken, chicken nuggets, etc. It&#8217;s all fried in hydrogenated or refined oils?most of the time using cheap oils like cottonseed or soybean oil.</p>
<p>Sticking to skim milk is probably the best option. </p>
<p>If you use butter for cooking, cultured organic butter is the best option, never use processed oils.</p>
