I don’t agree with the tone of your description because insurance coverage must be comprehensive in order for reform to be effective. Millions of people are currently underinsured and that results in their inability to pay their medical bills when they become ill or injured. Those costs are currently ultimately paid by those with more comprehensive insurance.
The cost control aspect however of the public option will apparently be missing from the final legislation. The public option is very important in keeping the costs of insurance down. Without it the insurance companies will have little real competition, individuals will have no option except to buy from insurance companies and we will have no effective gauge by which to measure the actual costs of insurance.
The politicians know it will never be financially feasible no matter how many trillions of taxpayer dollars they pump into it. They also need huge new taxes to support it, and forced purchase of insurance is really just another tax. People may not support it, but politicians need it to prop up their personal agendas.
