lea, you’re almost right. the yellow jersey in the TdF is awarded to the overall race leader, not necessarily the day’s stage winner. but that is the reason Lance chose yellow, from his TdF wins. on Discovery, previously US Postal, LA was dubbed “Mellow Johnny”. this was Lance’s cheeky name for the yellow jersey, a mispronunciation of Maillot Jaune as it is known by the French. after winning his battle with cancer, LA became obsessive about the TdF. most of his yellow jerseys have been donated to charity auctions, benefiting cancer organizations..
